چکیده

Paleosols are an important tool in the paleoclimatic and paleoenvironmental interpretation of continental deposits and can provide a high-resolution proxy for paleoclimate. Results from geochemical climofunctions applied to Early Miocene strata exposed in the Ebro Basin, Spain, demonstrate that mean annual precipitation was the dominant control on paleosol type and indicate that the paleoclimate was considerably wetter during the Early Miocene, by up to 1150 mm yr , in comparison to modern values, placing it in a subhumid climatic regime rather than an aridsemiarid regime as previously suggested by sedimentological and paleontological approaches. By making comparisons with published data on paleoclimate during the Early Miocene, this article stresses the importance of regional climatic changes in global paleoclimatic interpretation.

Late Oligocene–Early Miocene paleosols of distal fluvial systems, Ebro Basin, Spain

The study of paleosols can be a vital tool in the paleoenvironmental interpretation of continental deposits because their physical and chemical characteristics are a reflection of variations in aspects of soil formation. Changes in paleosol characteristics can be used to determine the architecture and nature of parent material, paleosol maturity, topography, climate and soil-forming organisms (...

Provenance, Tectonic Setting & Geochemical Maturity of The Early Miocene Pyawbwe Formation, Sakangyi –Thayet Area, Magway Region, Myanmar.

Abstract The best exposed Early Miocene (820 m. thick. ) shales and interbedded silty sandstones beds of the Pyawbwe Formation at Sakangyi- Thayat area,Magway Region are investigated geochemically by using Siemens SRS- X Ray 303 AS XRF Spectrometer. Major and some trace element concentrations have been determined to achieve their provenance, tectonic setting ,paleoweathering , paleoclimate and ...

Monitoring of environmental changes of Tabriz plain at Quaternary sediments

Abstract  Sediments provide a continuous, sensitive record of changing conditions of environment and processes within plain and in the surrounding plain, thus they contain significant archives of past environmental change on the continents. Valuable informations on regional and global scale patterns of past climate variability in the Azarbayjan region have been documented by numerous paleocli...

Diets and environments of late Cenozoic mammals in the Qaidam Basin, Tibetan Plateau Evidence from stable isotopes

The timing history and driving mechanisms of C4 expansion and Tibetan uplift are hotly debated issues. Paleoenvironmental evidence from within the Tibetan Plateau is essential to help resolve these issues. Here we report results of stable C and O isotope analyses of tooth enamel samples from a variety of late Cenozoic mammals, including deer, giraffe, horse, rhino, and elephant, from the Qaidam...

Aridity and hominin environments.

Aridification is often considered a major driver of long-term ecological change and hominin evolution in eastern Africa during the Plio-Pleistocene; however, this hypothesis remains inadequately tested owing to difficulties in reconstructing terrestrial paleoclimate. We present a revised aridity index for quantifying water deficit (WD) in terrestrial environments using tooth enamel δ18O values,...
